The Georgetown ISD board of trustees approved the district's 2012–13 school year calendar at its regular meeting Feb. 21.

The calendar selected was Option C of three proposed calendars. The calendar sets the first day of school on Aug. 27 and the last day of school on May 31, 2013.

Superintendent Joe Dan Lee said the district's hands were tied with the first day of school because of a state law that says school cannot start before the fourth Monday in August, which happens to be the last Monday in August this year. Lee said the late start date puts pressure on the rest of the year and made it difficult to develop a calendar that allowed students and teachers a two-week Christmas break and to get out of school before June 1.
