Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway is urging Hays County residents to be aware that Jan. 31 is the deadline for paying taxes. On Feb. 1, a 7 percent penalty and interest fee will be assessed.

Residents may pay their tax bill at any tax office in the county. The San Marcos office, which is now located at the Hays County Government Center, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail, will be open until 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.

All of the tax offices—in Buda, Dripping Springs, Kyle and San Marcos—are open 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Kyle office is closed from 12:30–1:30 p.m. daily and the Dripping Springs office is closed from 12:30–1:30 p.m. on Fridays.

"Even if you can't pay your entire bill, consider paying as much as you can," Caraway said in a news release. "The penalty and interest increase each month, and with a partial payment, you will be reducing the amount that accrues penalty and interest."

Residents can also pay online at https://hayscountytax.com/. Regular mail must be postmarked by midnight Jan. 31 to be considered on-time.

Addresses for the tax offices are: 500 Jack C. Hays Trail in Buda; 195 Roger Hanks Parkway, Precinct 4 Office in Dripping Springs; and 111 N. Front St., Precinct 2 Office in Kyle.
