The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close a section of MoPac this weekend to work on the two new MoPac/Hwy. 290 flyovers.
TxDOT will close MoPac near the intersection from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15.
TxDOT Spokesman John Hurt said the $8.4 million project was progressing well and was now on track for a late May to early June finish date. He said the project has experienced some rain delays.
Hurt said that that while crews will work on both flyovers this weekend, the road closures are related to the flyover connecting westbound Hwy. 290 to southbound MoPac.
"A large crane actually lifts the steel panels," he said. "They have to hang those and eventually weld them in place. It's a painstaking process."
The second flyover connects northbound MoPac to eastbound Hwy. 290.
TxDOT announced the following detours in a statement released Jan. 13:
- Northbound traffic will take the Hwy. 290 exit to the access road and back to MoPac near Gaines Ranch Loop.
- Southbound traffic will take the westbound flyover toward Hwy. 290, turn around at Industrial Oaks Drive/Monterey Oaks Drive and return to MoPac via the Hwy. 290 access road.
The eastbound Ben White freeway access road will be closed at the MoPac intersection during the same hours, the statement read. Traffic will travel from the southbound MoPac access road, turn around at William Cannon Drive and return to Hwy. 290 via the MoPac access road.
