PromiseLand West Bible Church officials will make a presentation about the Dream City project at the next Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods meeting.
The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at the West Rural Community Center, 8656-A W. Hwy. 71, Ste. A.
Executive Pastor Michael Heflin said the church had asked OHAN for the opportunity to speak at its meeting.
"We're going to talk about the project and bring with us some folks to help us talk about traffic and engineering, as well as acoustic engineers," he said. "Then we'll take some questions."
He added that the meeting is a chance for residents to hear the facts and for the church to build relationships with a community that it hopes to partner with in the future.
The meeting is PromiseLand West's first larger-scale presentation since the City of Austin approved the Dream City site plan Oct. 12. Heflin said he has held smaller in-home meetings with individuals.
Dream City is a planned 11-acre religious facility that will include a multipurpose building with worship center, a chapel and an amphitheater.
Church and city officials said the amphitheater will have about 1,000 seats. City documents estimate that lawn seating may hold another 1,500 people, totaling 2,500 people.
The site's restrictive covenant allows for an "approximately 3,500-seat outdoor amphitheater."
Neighborhood associations have stated that they do not mind the new church being built, but they strongly oppose the amphitheater. They have questioned the facility's use and how it was approved. They are concerned about noise, traffic and whether the project will set a zoning precedent elsewhere.
The church broke ground Oct. 23. Heflin said construction is generally on schedule and that workers are extending the city water line to the site from across the street.
