The Highlands community plans to add a fitness center by the third quarter of 2027, Marketing Coordinator Cady Mulkey told Community Impact. The project completion date is subject to change.

Located in Porter, The Highlands is a master-planned community that features over 200 acres of preserved nature and miles of scenic trails along the San Jacinto River. Founded in 2021, The Highlands has plans to build 4,000 homes and has so far completed a quarter of its community, Mulkey said.
In addition the community spans 2,300 acres of natural beauty and boasts:
- Over 30 miles of hiking and biking trails
- 18-hole golf course
- Scenic Lakes
- A resort style water park
- Parks
- An onsite elementary school
Per officials, complementing these amenities is a full-time lifestyle director who plans engaging events and activities throughout the year, creating endless opportunities to connect and explore.
The details
Upon completion, residents can look forward to using The Highlands Fitness Center, which will feature:
- Functional fitness
- Rock climbing
- Flex Space
- A kids area
- A lobby
According to
a Feb. 27 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the fitness center will span 16,502 square feet and cost $3 million. In addition to the fitness center, officials said The Highlands plans to build a 2,425-square-foot pool.
