Four candidates filed to face off in the May 2 election for New Braunfels mayor.
The list includes incumbent Neal Linnartz, who was sworn into office in 2023, communications professional Michael French, local business CEO Jonathon Frazier and planning commissioner Angela Allen.
As of March 12, Frazier has endorsed Linnartz for the May 2 election.
"After spending more time speaking with Mayor Neal Linnartz and discussing the future of New Braunfels, we realized we share a very similar vision for the community. Rather than approaching this as adversaries, we have decided to work together moving forward," Frazier said in an email to Community Impact.

Guadalupe County sees 15.76% population increase from 2020-2025
Between 2020 and 2025, Guadalupe County saw a 15.76% population increase, according to county-level data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in March.
In 2020, Guadalupe County had an estimated population of 173,722, which increased to an estimated population of 201,111 in 2025, data shows.
The largest contributor to population growth in Guadalupe County is domestic migration, according to data from the bureau. Domestic migration refers to individuals moving across county or state lines. International migration refers to individuals who cross a national border between two countries, according to the bureau.

Guadalupe County commissioners vote down $500M tax cut for proposed data center in New Braunfels
In a 3-2 vote, Guadalupe County Commissioners voted against a $500 million property tax abatement for a multibuilding data center campus with CloudBurst Texas on Feb. 24.
Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher and Precinct 2 Commissioner Drew Engelke voted in favor of the tax abatement. Precinct 1 Commissioner Jacqueline Ott, Precinct 4 Commissioner Stephen Germann and Precinct 3 Commissioner Jim Wolverton dissented.
A Chapter 312 tax abatement was the tax break under consideration by commissioners. A Chapter 312 tax abatement is an agreement between a taxpayer and a tax unit that exempts increases in property value taxation for up to 10 years. It is an economic development tool available to counties, cities and special districts to attract new industries, according to the Texas comptroller’s website.

Costco to open New Braunfels location this spring
Costco Wholesale's highly anticipated New Braunfels location now has an opening date.
What you need to know
Costco Wholesale will be opening on May 15, Costco's Regional Marketing Manager Kerry Carbullido said in an email to Community Impact. The 152,000-square-foot store is located at 235 Kohlenberg Road, at the intersection of I-35 and Kohlenberg Road within the Mayfair development, according to a news release.
Costco sells an array of items, including appliances, jewelry, groceries, furniture and more. This will be the company's 47th Texas location, 638th in the United States, and 930th worldwide, according to the release.
