Comal County confirms 12th coronavirus patient; Guadalupe County at 17 cases

A resident of eastern Comal County has tested positive for the coronavirus and is self-quarantined, the county announced on Wednesday, April 1.

The patient is in their 60s and the Comal County Office of Public Health (OPH) was unable to determine how the patient contracted the virus.

“The patient traveled internationally in the weeks before symptom onset, but the amount of time between travel and symptoms makes it difficult to determine whether they contracted the virus overseas or locally,” said Cheryl Fraser, Comal County director of public health in a press release. “Regardless, it remains essential that everyone in Comal County stay home if at all possible and help stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The are 12 confirmed cases in Comal so far and there have been two deaths—a New Braunfels resident and a Canyon Lake resident. Five patients have yet to recover and two of them are hospitalized outside the county.

In Guadalupe County, 17 cases have been confirmed. One patient lives in New Braunfels on the Guadalupe side of the county line.

Cibolo has five, Schertz has three, Seguin has two and there are five in the unincorporated parts of the county. One patient's location is pending confirmation.

The OPH is aware of 173 tests that have been reported in Comal County. 54 results are still pending.

Yesterday, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statewide stay-at-home order in all but name that lasts until April 30. Schools are closed until May 4.

The order supersedes local orders such as the one issued by New Braunfels.
