66 townhomes made of recycled steel planned for south McKinney

A new eco-friendly development of 66 townhomes made of steel from recycled cars is planned for south McKinney, according to a news release.

The development, named The Row, is a project by Lake Dallas-based developer Netze.Homes. The developer specializes in energy-efficient, sustainable homes with net-zero carbon emissions, according to its website.

The two-story townhomes will feature contemporary home designs with open-concept floor plans, high ceilings and large windows, according to the website. The 8.4-acre project site, located at 6492 McKinney Ranch Parkway, was rezoned in late 2022 in anticipation of the development.

The townhomes are designed using digital technologies such as Frame-CAD and CAD 3D, according to the developer’s website. The use of recycled steel to construct the townhomes replaces the need for wood from 40-50 mature trees per home, according to the release.

“Everything we need to change the future of homebuilding and reduce our carbon footprint is at our fingertips,” Netze.Homes CEO Nejeeb Khan said in the release. “Our goal with The Row is to create an eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and smart townhome that prioritizes the well-being of McKinney and its residents.”

Netze.Homes has projects underway across North Texas, including in Corinth, Denton, Krum and Melissa. Townhome sales for The Row development in McKinney are expected to begin in late 2023, according to the release.
