McKinney City Council and the McKinney ISD board of trustees met Feb. 9 for their annual joint meeting. Here’s what you need to know.

1. McKinney ISD students presented automated external defibrillator brackets they designed with 3D printers as part of a project with the McKinney Fire Department.

  • AED brackets from the manufacturer cost around $100 each, Battalion Chief Ben Jones said.
  • Students used a program called Tinkercad to design the brackets and the next step is bringing the project to the city, MISD teacher Daniel Buhrow said.
2. Airport Director Kenneth Carley gave a presentation on the McKinney National Airport.
  • The commercial service terminal project is on track to begin passenger service this November, Carley said.
  • Since 2014, the airport has generated $22.3 million in tax revenue for McKinney ISD.
3. MISD trustees also received a presentation from Dennis Womack, MISD’s assistant superintendent of business operations, with district demographics from Zonda Demographics.
  • MISD trustees approved new attendance boundary maps for the 2026-27 school year at a December meeting, prompting the closure and planned repurposing of three district elementary schools.
  • The 10-year forecast shows enrollment exceeding capacity at Frazier Elementary and declining at schools on the west side of the district, Womack said.
  • Within MISD, there are 19 potential future subdivisions totaling more than 16,800 single family lots, according to the demographic study.
4. Athletic Director Jennifer Frazier gave a presentation updating staff and trustees on the NCAA Division II Football Championship, which has been played at the MISD stadium for the past eight years.
  • Frazier said schools are entering a new bidding cycle with the NCAA and, if selected, MISD could host the tournament for another two years.
  • Of the nearly 900 rooms booked at hotels in the area for last year’s game, around 579 of those were booked at McKinney hotels, Visit McKinney Executive Director Aaron Werner said.
