Collin County Commissioners unanimously approved the final alignment of the Collin County Outer Loop between Preston Road and US 75 during a Dec. 11 commissioners court meeting.

The final alignment moves some portions of the Outer Loop farther north, and others move farther south. It also offers an enhanced curve design that provides a longer distance between each curve to better accommodate speeds of 70 mph on the road and in some cases flattens the curves to reduce impacts to properties, according to engineering firms CH2M and Brown & Gay, who presented the realignment during an Oct. 2 meeting.

After the Oct. 2 meeting, the county and engineers received 12 comments, six of which were in support of the realignment.

"After further coordination with property owners, all comments have been addressed or dismissed,” Jeff Durham, special projects manager for the county said at the Dec. 11 meeting.

CH2M and Brown & Gay will continue developing detailed plans and may need to make minor changes in isolated areas. In that case, individual property owners will be coordinated with directly and the county will be updated, according to the presentation.

A Technically Preferred Alignment was approved in August 2012, but the proposed realignment would establish a final alignment that will be used to prepare descriptions and exhibits for future right of way acquisitions, according to county documents.

The Outer Loop alignment between the Denton and Collin county line and Preston Road were not altered, according to a presentation at the meeting.

The Collin County Outer Loop would extend east from the Denton County and Collin County line south to Rockwall County.
