Residents wanting to recycle their live Christmas trees can do so Jan. 2-13 thanks to the city of McKinney. Progressive Waste Solutions (formerly IESI) will offer curbside pickup to residential customers.
Lights and ornaments must be removed prior to pick up. Trees with flocking, or artificial snow, will not be picked up. For those living in a single-family house, place the tree next to the trash bin on the regularly scheduled trash day. For those living in apartments, place the tree on the outside of the trash container enclosure in the apartment complex.
For questions about Christmas tree recycling, call Progressive Waste Solutions at 469-452-8000.
McKinney provides locations where residents can drop Christmas trees for recycling. Trees must be clean and free of decorations, lights and flocking.
Look for the signs at these locations:
- Al Ruschhaupt Soccer fields on Park View Ave.
- Water Tower on Alma Road south of Eldorado Parkway near Gabe Nesbitt Park
Natural Decorations
Composting is also available for natural decor including poinsettias, pine garland and wreaths by placing them in brown compost bags next to the trash bin on your regularly scheduled trash day.
Remove poinsettia plants from their pots or containers. Remove lights and ornaments from wreathes and garlands.
Trees and other materials are taken to the Regional Composting Facility in Plano and converted into a variety of compost products. See the composting tab on this page for more information. For questions, call Solid Waste Services at 972-547-7385
