A new hotel and restaurant are expected to make their debut on McKinney’s southern border later this year.
AC Hotel McKinney along with Good & Proper Wood Fired Bistro are slated for a mid-October opening, General Manager Craig Barnett said.
The overview
Construction began on the hotel in March 2024, and has since taken the project vertical to its planned five-story height. The building will span nearly 71,500 square feet, Barnett said.
The hotel will have 137 rooms, with a mix of rooms offering king-size beds and rooms offering double queen-size beds. The hotel will also offer eight suite-style rooms, Barnett said. The rooms will feature a European style with modern design elements.

Barnett said the walkability of the site to nearby shopping and restaurants, as well as proximity to corporate centers including the Globe Life headquarters and South State Bank’s McKinney offices, drove the site selection for the hotel.
“That is just going to be phenomenal for our hotel and for the businesses as well, because many of the guests can literally just walk to the hotel. They won’t have to worry about transportation,” Barnett said.

“I really want it to be a very seamless experience, where they're doing mobile [check-in], or whether they come to the front desk and want to check in that way,” Barnett said of future hotel guests. “I'm huge on first impressions. ... We get one chance for that first impression, and being a brand-new hotel, it goes without saying that we have to be on top of our game from day one.”
Diving in deeper
Good & Proper Wood Fired Bistro, which will open at the same time as the hotel, will be located on the fifth floor of the hotel and have its own separate entrance.
The restaurant will be open for dinner service and the menu will feature elevated American fare with inspiration from Texas cuisine, Barnett said. The restaurant may also offer weekend brunch, he said.
“It is definitely an upscale menu where you'll see things like beef cheek and bone marrow, things of that nature, but there's also some steaks, some chicken dishes,” Barnett said. “It's going to be a very eclectic, very good menu.”

Hotel officials plan to host a job fair later this year to recruit staff for various positions at the hotel and restaurant, Barnett said. Job opportunities will also be posted to Indeed.
