Wet’n’Wild Splashtown owners Premier Parks have announced plans to expand the water park by about 30 acres in a multiyear effort to add more attractions for the growing population in Northwest Houston.
The park has operated on I-45 for 33 years, and it underwent a rebranding in 2014. It features 41 rides, slides and other attractions including its newest ride,
the Alien Chaser, which opened in 2017.
The park occupies about 50 acres, but the property includes an additional 30 adjoining acres that have not yet been developed.
General Manager Jody Kneupper said the time is right for the park to consider expanding because of population growth in the area as well as the opening of the Grand Parkway just north of the park site.
The effort could be a multiyear expansion costing more than $20 million.
Wet’n’Wild SplashTown partnered with New York-based Aquatic Development Group on a concept drawing for the future site, which provides an example of what a future expansion could look like.
The expansion could include more river and family raft rides, which Kneupper said are among the facility’s most popular attractions, and the expanded site could also include additional restaurants, changing facilities and parking.
“We’re trying to grow the park and to add opportunities to do things as a family … really just make the footprint of that park that much larger,” Kneupper said.
A timeline for the expansion has not yet been determined, Kneupper said. The park will open for the season May 5.
