School of Rock will host a grand opening celebration Sept. 28 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 21117 I-45 N., Ste. 600, Spring, according to a Sept. 27 press release. The celebration will include a ceremonial guitar smashing, live music, face painting and prizes, the release states. Owned and operated by David Ireland, the new location will offer one-on-one lessons as well as group band practices in guitar, drums, singing, bass guitar, keyboard and piano for musicians of all skill levels, including beginner, intermediate and advanced. "After serving in the military, I was looking for my purpose and found that with School of Rock," Ireland said in a statement. "With the help from my kids, we're creating this amazing school for people of all ages to come rock out and have a home away from home. I love that we are living the very values we are promoting to our community." The music school will also offer various programs for different age groups, beginning with a "Little Wing" program geared for children ages 3-5, through which children will use hand percussion and other tools to learn rhythm patterns and musical syntax during weekly group lessons. Other offerings include a "Rookies" program for children ages 6-7, "Rock 101" for ages 8-13, "Performance" for ages 8-18 and an adult program for students age 18 and older. "David is passionate about his community and eager to provide opportunities for students to further their music education," School of Rock CEO Rob Price said in a statement. "I am proud to have David join the School of Rock family and excited to see how this new location will positively impact the lives of its students and the Spring community as a whole." The school will also host music camps and workshops throughout the year. 832-246-7625. www.schoolofrock.com
