After briefly closing in late May, an urgent care center run by the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital at 9110 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress, reopened June 1 as a CareNow Urgent Care.

Jennifer Shain, associate vice president of marketing for CareNow, said several site enhancements were made before the facility reopened, including the addition of a coffee bar,·the installation of flat-screen TVs in every exam room and an upgrade of digital radiography and X-ray equipment.

No major changes were made to services or staffing at the site, Shain said. Services include quick care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries—including sprains, strains, minor burns, coughs, sore throats and flu-like symptoms—as well wellness checkups, vaccinations and general diagnostics. X-ray and lab services are also available. New services include the ability to check in online at www.carenow.com to reduce wait times.

Two other Cy-Fair Urgent Care locations closed in late May, including one on Spring Cypress Road and one on West Road. Cy-Fair Medical Center Hospital CEO Naman Mahajan said the hospital remains committed to offering ambulatory care in Cy-Fair and has plans to re-evaluate how it provides urgent care moving forward.

“We will be growing and expanding our footprint in the urgent care realm in the Cypress area, but we want to be very strategic that we are in locations that offer close proximity to folks that will need urgent care [like] families with young children,” Mahajan said. "We are actively looking at our community at where those best locations are."
