Under the Kilt Pub is located on Telge Road in Cypress.
Cypress resident George Smith opened Under the Kilt Pub in July at 12710 Telge Road, Cypress. The pub and eatery serves traditional Scottish and British cuisine including haggis, Scotch eggs, pot pies, sausage rolls and grilled cheese sandwiches.
After seeing many of his favorite local pubs close their doors, Smith said he and his wife wanted to bring a new option to the area.
“I felt Cypress now lacked choices, especially for mature empty nest couples who wanted a more relaxed venue and not a sports bar or restaurant,” he said, adding that he wanted to cater to those in the area from the British Isles.
According to Smith, the Telge Road location is similar to an authentic pub with low ceilings, non-uniform room sizes, separate bar and lounge areas and a beer garden. While the pub offers a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere than a typical sports bar, he said NFL games play each Sunday.
