Spoons Cafe owner Karen Klassen opened The Garage Sept. 28 in what used to be the cafe's overflow seating, located at 100 E. Louisiana St., McKinney.

"[The space] was functioning as a backup dining room to Spoons and I saw at nighttime the business had changed so much so the back room wouldn’t fill up," Klassen said. "We always filled up during the weekends and at lunch during the week but at the nighttime I had all this empty space in the back and I saw what was going on and the transition of downtown McKinney. And I really felt the need for a place to do a quieter venue, [and] still serve some really good comfort foods in smaller portions and some really great craft cocktails for the grownup Spoons people."

The Garage serves menu items from Spoons Cafe during regular cafe hours in addition to craft cocktails and "comfort cups." One example of a comfort cup is baked spaghetti with garlic toast served in a glass.

The newly renovated space also offers a lounge area available for private cocktail parties.

The new space is open for guests ages 18 and older until 9 p.m. when The Garage becomes a space for those ages 21 and older. The Garage is open Monday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday from 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
