Honi's Coffee House opened its first brick-and-mortar location July 16 inside Brookhaven Church, 6101 Stacy Road, McKinney. The nonprofit coffee shop offers single-origin, specialty Honduran blend coffee in addition to tea, Keurig's K-Cups, coffee grounds, coffee beans and coffee shakes. Honi's mission is to transform the lives of impoverished children through a holistic approach, according to the company's website. Owner and CEO Mark Lichty said at Honi's they try to break the cycle of poverty through spiritual, mental and physical development. "It will start with one cup of coffee at a time," he said. Profits at Honi's go toward helping children at La Finca De Los Niños, an orphanage in Honduras. Jewelry and other handmade goods made by children at La Finca De Los Niños will also be sold at the new location, Lichty said. Honi's began in 2013 by selling coffee grounds and beans online after Lichty, while on a mission trip, met a family in Honduras who owned a coffee farm. Lichty said in 2014 he bought what is now Honi's signature orange and white 1974 Volkswagen van and began serving mobile coffee around Collin County. Honi's will host a grand opening event July 26 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. During the summer, the coffee shop will be open from 6-10 a.m., but Lichty said he hopes to expand those hours in the fall. 469-235-8057. www.honiscoffeehouse.org
