Scenic Texas announced July 16 that Flower Mound was one of 21 cities to be recognized as a 2019 certified scenic city.

According to a press release, Scenic Texas recognizes cities that demonstrate commitment to "high-quality" scenic standards for public roads and spaces. Applicants are scored on a point-based assessment that identifies strengths and areas that need improvement in landscaping, tree planting and sign regulation. Among the cities that apply, only the ones that score the in the upper threshold achieve certification.

“Through the Scenic City Certification Program, cities access a low cost, high rate-of-return diagnostic tool,” Scenic Texas Executive Director Sarah Tober said in the release. “The detailed evaluation of existing infrastructure standards provides cities with a roadmap for future growth and development. As municipalities continue to aspire to certification and our highest level of recognition, platinum, it is a reflection of communities working to make a more scenic Texas for citizens and visitors.”
