At the May 20 meeting of the Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees, board members unanimously voted to approve Steve Novickas as the next principal of Rooster Springs Elementary School, at the recommendation of Superintendent Bruce Gearing. Novickas is currently serving his second year as assistant principal of Sycamore Springs Middle School, and prior served as assistant principal of the Title 1 Highline Elementary School. In a press release, Gearing praised Novickas' record of past administration roles. "Mr. Novickas is a positive and relational leader who is committed to the students of Dripping Springs ISD ... and has been involved in building a strong campus and community culture at three brand new schools," Gearing said. Rooster Springs Elementary is one of the district's newer schools, and is considered the district's "first neighborhood school," serving the community near Belterra, according the the school website. Novickas will begin his duties as principal at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year, and will replace current principal Mandy Sargent.
