Two Southwest Austin residents, Amy Thyng and son Sam, are in the running to win a $30,000 cafeteria makeover for Mills Elementary School, 6201 Davis Lane, Austin, along with a hometown celebration and $15,000 awarded to Sam. Each parent-child duo submitted a recipe for their favorite homemade dish in an effort to promote healthy eating habits at a young age. They are two of 25 finalists in the nationwide contest sponsored by Uncle Ben’s Rice for their pumpkin-spiced breakfast pudding recipe. Five winners will be awarded the grand prize. Voting is ongoing and ends Monday, Nov. 6.
