Texas Department of Transportation broke ground Feb. 5 on its Posey Road and I-35 project, in which it will permanently remove the Posey Road bridge and raise the main lanes of I-35 to go over Posey Road.

In addition to the construction of a new overpass, TxDOT will add two new U-turn lanes in each direction at Posey Road, along with ramp reversals and the conversion of the existing two-way frontage roads to one-way frontage roads.

Drivers can expect detours in the area as the project officially begins. The project, funded by Hays County and TxDOT for $31.7 million, is projected to be complete by late 2020 or early 2021.
