A new fire station, located at 201 Sundance Parkway, Round Rock, will break ground Aug. 12.

“This new station will improve response times and give our firefighters the ability to better serve a growing area in Round Rock,” Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan said in an Aug. 9 news release.

Located in the La Frontera shopping center, the 11,500-square-foot fire station will replace the existing Fire Station No. 3 at 1991 Rawhide Drive, Round Rock, according to the release. The new station will house a fire engine, aerial fire apparatus and a Williamson County EMS ambulance crew.

Station No. 3 will serve the southwestern Round Rock area, including La Frontera, the Chisholm Valley neighborhood and Dell campus.

“By analyzing our data, we saw the opportunity to relocate new Station 3 in a popular retail and restaurant corridor while providing strategic access to major roadways for maximum efficiency in our response,” Round Rock Fire Chief Robert Isbell said in the release.

Funding for the relocation of Station No. 3 comes from a 2013 bond election, per the release. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2019 with anticipated completion in late 2020.
