Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center-Round Rock, located at 300A University Blvd., Round Rock, celebrated its one-year anniversary Sept. 8.

The cancer center was constructed to support the adjacent Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Round Rock, as well as provide oncology and screening services that were not already available at the medical center, according to Dr. Rob Watson, chief medical officer for Baylor Scott & White Health's Austin-Round Rock Region.

"We added radiation oncology. We hadn’t had that capability until we opened that cancer center," Watson said.

In addition to radiation oncology, Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center-Round Rock also added neuro-oncology, neurosurgery and palliative care to the list of services provided by the coupled medical centers.

The cancer center additionally keeps a social worker on staff to coordinate with patients undergoing care. Round Rock patients may also undergo cancer screening, genetic screening and genetic testing at the cancer center.

Watson said the cancer center will likely add another radiation oncology linear accelerator to meet demand sometime in the next year.

"Our growth has been faster than it has in previous years," Watson said.
