Texas’ oldest barbecue restaurant plans new location in North Austin

Southside Market & Barbeque—the state’s oldest barbecue restaurant that opened in 1882 in Elgin—announced Aug. 2 it is planning to open a new location in North Austin later this year, according to a news release.

The new restaurant, located in The Shops at Arbor Walk, 10515 N. MoPac, Ste. B-225, Austin, will serve slow-smoked meats and housemade sides and desserts. Owners Bryan and Rachel Bracewell plan to open Southside Market in late 2019.

Bryan’s family bought the historic Southside Market in 1968. The restaurant was founded by William J. Moon and is known for its beef sausage, according to the news release. The Bracewells are also planning to open an additional location in Hutto in 2020.
