Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, located at 18220 Hwy. 249, Houston, unveiled its prayer room, which was built in the Muslim tradition, June 11. This room is designed to provide Muslim patients, visitors, physicians, employees and other interested persons with a designated area to observe their traditions, according to the hospital.

Dr. Khawaja Azimuddin, a physician at Houston Methodist Willowbrook, designed the mihrab, which is a niche in a mosque that points in the direction of Mecca, using handcrafted and painted tile.

The arched niche quotes verse 39:73 from the Quran: “And those who were mindful of their Lord will be driven to paradise in throngs until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, ‘Peace be upon you; you have done well; so enter it to abide eternally therein.’”

Azimuddin also designed the mosaic piece that marks the entrance to the prayer room. 281-737-1000. www.houstonmethodist.org/locations/willowbrook
