Great Harvest Bread Company's Westlake location celebrated a renovation and new ownership with a ribbon cutting at the end of April.

Owners Juan Maldonado and Gisela Hernandez-Mendoza purchased the bakery after learning the previous owners were retiring and closing, a news release said. The pair applied for an $82,000 Family Business Loan Program loan from the city of Austin's Economic Development Department to acquire the establishment and remodel the interior.

The FBLP is a public-private loan pool that commits to create one job for every $35,000 borrowed and utilizes no city funds, the release said. It added that the healthy, made-from-scratch bakery makes fresh bread daily and has been a part of the Austin community for more than 25 years.
