A $1.8 million grant awarded through the federal Health Resources and Services Administration will help several departments at The University of Texas at Austin expand mental health access for low-income and uninsured residents in Travis County.
The Integrated Behavioral Health Scholars program will provide 84 graduate and professional students with training in providing “culturally and linguistically competent” care in the communities its serves, according to a press release.
Students from departments in psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing and education will collaborate with local mental health care providers, including Integral Care, the local mental health authority for Travis County. Integral Care will provide supervision, guidance and clinical training sites for residents and students to provide care in surrounding communities.
