San Marcos Thrift Store, which is operated by the Southside Community Center, has closed after 32 years as a profitable business.
"We were losing money and could no longer offer the services we had in the past," said Ruben Garza, executive director of Southside Community Center. "We are accepting donations at the Southside Community Center from now on but have gone to a free distribution of clothing."
Although the center has moved away from the profit of clothing to a free model distribution, they will continue to help those in need and work with local schools, Garza said.
The Southside Community Center, located at 518 S Guadalupe St., is a non-profit organization aimed to address social concerns by improving the living conditions of those in need in San Marcos and Hays County.
