Lewisville ISD board of trustees took the first step toward drafting an academic calendar for the 2022-23 school year at its Oct. 18 meeting.
District representatives briefed the board on the Texas Education Agency requirements for a complete school year as well as preferences suggested by the Academic Calendar Committee, which is comprised of district administrators, parents and students. Their plan is to have proposals ready for the board by December.
As Lewisville ISD is defined as a District of Innovation by the TEA, it has had flexibility with start dates in recent years. LISD is eligible to begin the school year earlier than the TEA’s recommendation that calls for school to start on or after the fourth Monday of August.
However, according to agenda notes, the district’s status as a District of Innovation is up for renewal and is currently set to expire in May 2022. Therefore, the board of trustees will be presented with two calendar options – one that features an earlier start date and one that begins on or after the traditional fourth Monday of August.
