Lewisville ISD's new gourmet food truck, named StrEATz & BEATz, made its official debut at Flower Mound High School.
The food truck, which was
approved by trustees in November 2017, is a result of a partnership between the district and food service provider Aramark as a way to provide a new dining option for K-12 students.
“StrEATz & BEATz gives us a unique opportunity to introduce innovative breakfast concepts to students through a fun experience,” Aramark Executive Chef Robby Hooker said in a news release.
Hooker, along with Aramark LISD nutritionists, has developed a series of recipes that maintain an emphasis on nutrition while incorporating out-of-the-ordinary elements. The food truck menu will change weekly, serving items such as chicken and waffles with maple sriracha syrup or sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches on whole-grain doughnuts.
The food truck will visit all LISD high schools on a weekly basis.
In addition to providing meals during the school year, long-term plans for the food truck include providing meals to LISD students during the summer.
“As the LISD food service provider, we take a special interest in ensuring students are receiving the meals they need,” Resident District Manager Alisha Jordan McDonald said. “With StrEATz & BEATz, we’re not only excited for the opportunity to serve kids who don’t normally participate in the breakfast program, but also to have an opportunity to serve economically disadvantaged students outside of regular school hours.”
Aramark, which primarily operates the food truck, also has plans to support special events for LISD elementary and secondary schools as well as LISD catering needs and tailgates for sporting events.
