Water and wastewater impact fees increase in Leander

Engineering firm K Friese + Associates prepared the recommended fees for council.

“As you get new citizens in your city that are coming in buying houses, these are the fees that help pay for the water and wastewater infrastructure to support those people,” Jennifer Sullivan, senior engineer at K Friese + Associates, said during a July 20 presentation to council.

• Water and wastewater impact fees are charged to new developments and help fund growth-related facilities, Sullivan said. The fees can't be used on non-capital improvement facilities, maintenance repairs, upgrades or service to existing developments.
• Facilities funded by impact fees include water supply, water and wastewater treatment, pumping, storage and major water transmission lines and sewer collection lines.
• The fees are applied to a 10-year period, from 2023-2033, and are required to be updated every five years.
• Leander City Council approved the maximum allowable fee.
