Leander community celebrates groundbreaking of long-awaited senior activity center

Now, after 13 years of collective planning efforts, the Leander Senior Activity Center is officially underway.

Officials said the Leander Senior Activity Center will include the following amenities:

• A lobby with a seating area
• A courtyard
• Multipurpose rooms
• A fitness center
• A communal kitchen

While the groundbreaking ceremony was held May 29, construction officially began on May 30, said Russell Alabastro, capital improvement program project manager. He said work on the facility will wrap up in about eight months, or by early 2025.

Construction is expected to cost roughly $8.8 million and will be funded by a variety of sources, including the city’s May 2016 bond, city officials said.

The Leander Senior Activity Center will be situated near the city’s public works building at 607 Municipal Drive, Leander.
