Following a robust discussion during a Jan. 13 special meeting, Lakeway officials will vote on amending the city's smoking ordinance to include the use of e-cigarettes in public places.
City Council could vote on the ordinance amendment during its Jan. 21 regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
If council were to do so, the new verbiage will include vaping behaviors within its definition of smoking behaviors and therefore include a vaping ban in areas where smoking is banned.
The new language to the city code will state: “Smoke or smoking also includes the inhaling, exhaling, emitting of smoke or vapor, or any other use of an e-cigarette as defined by Tex. Health & Safety Code Ann. § 161.081(1-a), as amended.”
