Bee Cave City Council issues new oaths of office, officially has new mayor

On May 12, Bee Cave City Council members were sworn into office during the first regular meeting of the month.

Kara King was sworn in as mayor, and Jon Cobb and Bill Goodwin were sworn in for another term as council members.

Prior to the meeting, Goodwin was still undecided as to whether he would return to the office he resigned from in early April. That resignation came following assertions from Cobb that Goodwin had mishandled several situations centered on preparations and staff and council safety amid the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis.

Regarding the new two-year council term beginning in May, Goodwin had already received the position in February because no one applied to run against him, and that appointment is not connected to his resignation from his previous term.

Goodwin had also resigned as mayor March 28 due to the aforementioned misconduct accusations levied against him. Goodwin became mayor in December following the resignation of former Mayor Monty Parker, who left his position to pursue a professional opportunity closer to San Antonio. Once Goodwin resigned as mayor in March, King took over as mayor prior to being officially sworn in May 12.

During the May 12 meeting, council also appointed Council Member Andrew Clark as mayor pro tem and appointed Kevin Hight to take over King's vacant council seat.
