Eanes ISD officials are continuing to work toward a potential 2027 bond, which could see projects for every campus in a multimillion-dollar package.
Remember this?
EISD's Long-Range Facility Planning Committee presented a list of recommended bond projects to the board last May.
These potential projects included:
- Closing and repurposing Eanes Elementary as a central hub for the early childhood program
- Modernizing Barton Creek Elementary, Bridge Point Elementary and West Ridge Middle schools
- Replacing entire campuses for Cedar Creek Elementary, Forest Trail Elementary and Hill Country Middle schools
- Making upgrades at Westlake High School, such as constructing a multistory academic building and library, expanding the career and technical education, fine arts and athletic facilities, and building three parking garages to generate revenue
During a March 24 board meeting, Chief Financial Officer Chris Scott projected that this list would equate to about a $900 million bond.
The update
The last day for the board to call for a bond election is Feb. 12, 2027, to hold an election May 1, 2027. To stay within this timeline, district officials said a potential Bond Advisory Committee timeline could look like:
- Aug. 25: board meeting presentation on the BAC process
- Sept. 2: BAC meeting No. 1
- Sept. 23: BAC meeting No. 2
- Oct. 5: BAC meeting No. 3 and campus tours
- Oct. 14: BAC meeting No. 4
- Nov. 4: BAC meeting No. 5
- Nov. 6: BAC meeting No. 6
- Dec. 8: final recommendations presented at the board meeting
"In canvassing members of the current [Bond Oversight Committee], the LRFPC members and potential new members entrusted in helping with a future bond advisory process, ... we have had an overwhelmingly positive response," Superintendent Kirk Koennecke said.
Something to note
After several trustees voiced concerns that voting on a package Dec. 8 could be a tight turnaround time, Koennecke said the BAC could present at a June board meeting so the bond process can start sooner.
