Eanes ISD calls May 2 election; three community members file for a place on the ballot

Update: Resident Catherine Walker filed for Place 2 on the ballot Feb. 14, the deadline for submitting an application.

Eanes ISD voted Jan. 28 to call an election for Place 1, Place 2 and Place 3 on the district’s board of trustees.

Applications to run in the May 2 election are required to be filed before Feb. 14, with early voting taking place between April 20-28.

Place 1 is held by Christie Bybee; Place 2 is held by secretary of the board Jason Paull; and Place 3 is held by Vice President John Havenstrite.

Two community members spoke during open forum to announce their plans to run in the election.

Laura Clark has filed for Place 2 on the ballot. A mother of EISD students, she cited that the decision to run was several years in the making.

“My decision was based on a desire and need to provide the best learning environment possible for all of our kids,” Clark said.

Kim McMath, who also has children within the district, announced that she filed for a place on the ballot, running for Place 1.

Resident John Troy has also filed for Place 1, according to Claudia McWhorther, the district's executive director of communication and community engagement.

Havenstrite announced through his Facebook page that he has filed to run for a second term, saying: “My first two plus years have been humbling, rewarding and fun,” adding that he feels that important work remains.

Neither Bybee nor Paull have filed for a place on the ballot, according to McWhorther.
