Transpo Updates May1. Woodland Hills Drive extension


Harris County awarded a construction contract for Phase 2 of the expansion of Woodlands Hills Drive in April. The roadway will be widened from two lanes to four between Beltway 8 and Ridge Creek Elementary School. During Phase 2, a new roadway will be constructed between Ridge Creek Elementary and Woodland Path Drive.


Timeline: April 2017-April 2018


Cost: $7.8 million


Funding sources: Harris County precincts 2 and 4



2. Kingwood intersection improvements


Construction will begin this summer on a designated turn lane and traffic signalization at the intersection of West Lake Houston Parkway and Northpark Drive, and another at the Kings Crossing Drive and West Lake Houston Parkway intersection.


Timeline: June 2017-early 2018


Cost: $1.2 million


Funding sources: Lake Houston Redevelopment Authority



3. FM 1960 expansion


The Texas Department of Transportation is studying the expansion of FM 1960 between Humble and Atascocita. The four- lane highway will be converted to a six-lane divided highway between FM 1960 Business and Lake Houston. The project includes an overpass at West Lake Houston Parkway.


Timeline: 2022-2025


Cost: $98 million

4. Concrete pavement improvements


The city of Humble is converting asphalt-paved roads to concrete as part of the city’s 2016 Concrete Pavement Improvement Plan. Curbs on Main and Davis streets as well as avenues C, D, E, F and H and 2nd through 7th streets will also be converted. The project includes new sewer lines and water lines in the Benders subdivision and on Main Street. Hirsch Street will receive a new water line while the existing sewer system on Davis Street will be upgraded.


Timeline: September 2016-early 2018


Cost: $6.1 million

5. Beltway 8 widening


TxDOT is widening Beltway 8 between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and the Hardy Toll Road. The project includes adding an auxiliary lane in both directions and moving the westbound Aldine Westfield exit ramp backward. Auxiliary lanes are temporary additional lanes located at busy interchanges, freeway entrances and freeway exits.


Timeline: June 2016-early 2018


Cost: $26.8 million


Funding source: TxDOT



6. Wilson Road expansion


The expansion of Wilson Road between just north of Beltway 8 and Atascocita Road will widen the road from two and three lanes to four and include traffic signalization at Greens Road. The project will be bid in early 2017.
