2 forums planned for Humble ISD board candidates ahead of May 3 election

Residents living within Humble ISD’s boundaries will have two opportunities to meet the candidates running for positions on the district’s board of trustees at a pair of upcoming forums.

Four seats will be up for grabs on HISD's board during the May 3 election, with a total of 10 candidates running in the races.

The first candidate forum—sponsored by the Humble ISD Council of PTAs—will be held April 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the James D. Eggers Instructional Support Center, located at 4810 Magnolia Cove Drive in Kingwood. Attendees will be invited to visit with candidates from 6-6:30 p.m., with the program following from 6:30-8 p.m., according to event organizers.

The second forum—co-sponsored by the Humble Area Retired Teachers Association and the Humble Association of Texas Professional Educators—will be held April 10 from 7-8 p.m. at Summer Creek High School, located at 14000 Weckford Blvd. in Houston. Attendees will be invited to visit with candidates from 6-7 p.m., with the program following from 7-8 p.m., event organizers said.

All candidates have been invited to participate in each event, according to the district’s website.

Some context

Trustees approved an order calling for the election during the board’s Jan. 14 meeting. According to the order, elections will be held for the following positions May 3:

• Position 1, currently held by Robert Sitton, who is not seeking re-election
• Position 3, currently held by Chris Parker
• Position 4, currently held by Ken Kirchhofer
• Position 5, currently held by Martina Lemond Dixon, who is not seeking re-election

According to the Harris County sample ballot for the May 3 election, the candidates will appear in the following order:
