Biopharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb has selected Generation Park for its new $2.3 billion manufacturing campus, officials announced in an Aug. 10 news release. The project is expected to bring nearly 500 jobs to the Lake Houston area.
The big picture
The state-of-the-art 600,000-square-foot campus will enable BMS to manufacture multiple types of medicines, such as small molecules, biologics and antibody-drug conjugates. Per the release, the campus will be modular and multimodal to support long-term growth and allow the campus to evolve as needed.
"Our decision to build this state-of-the-art manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas reflects our confidence in the region's ability to support a world-class, digitally advanced supply operation," said Karin Shanahan, executive vice president and chief supply chain and operations officer of BMS, in a statement.
The impact
Jobs created by the new campus will include operations technicians, production specialists, maintenance and engineering professionals, quality control and assurance experts, and site leadership and administration. Per the release, BMS also expects to create approximately 2,000 construction and other indirect jobs between 2027-30, while the facility is built.

Some context
Community Impact first reported BMS was considering Generation Park for a new manufacturing campus in May. Per the release, the campus is part of the company's $40 billion commitment to invest in the U.S. over five years across research and development, technology and domestic manufacturing.
"As part of our $40 billion commitment to the United States, we're building the domestic manufacturing capabilities needed to deliver the next generation of medicines and support future scientific breakthroughs," BMS board chair and CEO Dr. Christopher Boerner said in a statement. "Houston and the state of Texas offer the talent, infrastructure and partnership needed to help bring that vision to life."
BMS joins pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Company, which announced plans to build a $6.5 billion manufacturing facility in Generation Park in September 2025. The 4,300-acre master-planned community is also home to other life sciences offerings, including the San Jacinto College Center for Biotechnology and BioHub Two, a 45-acre biomanufacturing campus.
