While the Fourth of July holiday is a time of celebration for many, family pets have the potential to be negatively impacted by a number of factors, according to local shelter officials.
According to the Fort Worth Animal Shelter, more pets are lost on July 4 than any other day of the year. Pets are also at risk of heat stroke and exposure to loud noises, such as fireworks and firecrackers.
“Many pets become so frightened by the noise and commotion of fireworks that they run from otherwise familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost,” officials with the Humane Society said.
The Humane Society recommends leaving pets indoors with a TV or radio turned on in order to lessen the effects of loud, jarring noises. Pets should also not be left in cars or exposed to pavement on a hot day.
