Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Place 1 on the Tarrant Appraisal District board

Why are you running for office?

I’m running because property owners deserve a voice on the Board. I’m a taxpayer and community leader, not an appraisal expert, but I believe government should be transparent, accountable and responsive to the people it serves. I want to bring that perspective to TAD and keep taxpayers at the center.

What are the biggest challenges facing the Tarrant Appraisal District?

I believe TAD needs to make the appraisal process easier for ordinary property owners to understand and navigate. The district also needs to keep improving its technology, communicate more clearly and balance the need for accurate property values with the real financial pressures facing taxpayers.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I’ll listen, ask questions and advocate for practical improvements that make TAD more accessible to taxpayers. That means clearer communication, better online tools and a simpler process for challenging property values. I’ll also push for responsible spending and make sure taxpayer concerns are heard in Board decisions.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected? 

My priorities are simple: put taxpayers first, improve transparency and make TAD easier to deal with. I want property owners to understand how their values are determined, know how to challenge them when necessary and feel like they have a fair opportunity to be heard.

What is your approach to reviewing the county's reappraisal plan?

I’ll approach the plan from the perspective of a property owner: Does it provide stability, predictability and fairness? I support less frequent residential appraisals and believe significant increases should be backed by evidence. TAD’s job is to determine property values, not to raise them simply because a taxing entity needs...

Why are you running for office?

I was raised to help others when they're in need and right now our county needs leaders who think independently and put people over politics. As a real estate advisor, I've built my career on trust and relationships. I'm running to bring that same approach to this board.

What are the biggest challenges facing the Tarrant Appraisal District?

Current board policies have hurt middle-class residents. The two-year appraisal cycle leaves homeowners with values that don't match the market and the public has lost trust in the process. Too much talk and not enough results. All hat, no cattle.

How do you plan to address these issues?

Build real trust, deliver economic impact and be transparent. Homeowners should understand how their value is set and decisions should happen in the open. I'll bring resources to our communities and hold this board accountable to the people it serves.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected? 

First, I'll vote for annual appraisals so values reflect the real market. Second, I'll fight to deliver relief and resources to middle-class residents, who have carried too much of this burden for too long.

What is your approach to reviewing the county's reappraisal plan?

I'd push to rejoin the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and put proven practices from trusted subject matter experts to work. Before any reappraisal plan moves forward, I want to see the data, hear from experts and listen to the residents it affects.

Why are you running for office?

Public institutions we depend on must earn the confidence of the people. TAD needs experienced, thoughtful leadership focused on fundamentals: fair valuations, accuracy, transparency and accountability. I will do the work to understand the issues, listening to different perspectives and make sound decisions that are fair and just.

What are the biggest challenges facing the Tarrant Appraisal District?

Taxation shall be equal and uniform. TAD’s data shows that 190,000 homeowners are paying taxes on a value that is over market value. That means 30% of Tarrant County homeowners are paying more in taxes than they should. The current board’s policy to freeze values is to blame.

How do you plan to address these issues?

I want TAD to conduct annual appraisals. Annual appraisal does not mean annual increases; it means annual review. Every property should be reviewed annually using current market information and the same standards. That helps keep values current and ensures taxpayers are treated uniformly and fairly.

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

TAD has one job: provide reliable appraisal information for property owners and taxing entities. I would focus on two priority areas: people and technology. Recruit/retain a capable workforce while regularly evaluating staffing levels and productivity. Invest in technology that improves accuracy, efficiency, security and service to property owners.

Stop freezing values. Conduct appraisals every year.

While serving on the Appraisal Review Board, I saw many issues that need to be addressed, such as over appraisals, inappropriate removal of exemptions, ignoring evidence provided by property owners, losing good appraisers, split-zoning which created differences in appraisals of properties in 2 separate tax entities and a disconnect with... 

What are the biggest challenges facing the Tarrant Appraisal District?

The critical issue currently facing the Tarrant Appraisal District is the persistent overvaluation and undervaluation of properties throughout Tarrant County. This discrepancy leads to non-uniform and unequal taxation, which violates the Texas Property Tax Code. There is a need to invest in infrastructure upgrades, specifically in cybersecurity and general equipment.

Ensure uniform, equitable appraisals fully aligned with Texas laws and regulations from the 90th Legislative Session. Include all taxable properties on the tax roll, require independent audits every three years, a fully funded, operational independent Appraisal Review Board and follow the Texas Property Tax Code in all TAD operations and...

What would your top priorities be if you are elected?

My top priorities include: uniform and equal annual appraisals. Ensuring the inclusion of all taxable properties on the tax roll. Mandating an independent audit of the tax roll every three years. An independent, fully funded Appraisal Review Board (ARB). Follow the Texas Property Tax Code.

What is your approach to reviewing the county’s reappraisal plan?

Currently, 2027 is the year to reappraise all properties countywide. I propose reviewing our reappraisal plan alongside the Governor’s appraisal reform policies to ensure alignment with 90th Legislative Session requirements, strengthen transparency and establish TAD as a statewide model for uniform and equal, efficient and legally compliant appraisal practices.
