Fort Worth officials will launch a free mobile spay and neuter unit for residents to utilize without having to travel to a city veterinarian clinic.

According to a city news release, Fort Worth Animal Care & Control will start the initiative July 18. The trailer will have modern medical equipment to perform the surgeries and will also provide microchipping and basic vaccinations.
Through the Chip & Snip portal on the city’s website, residents can request an appointment for service. Eligibility is based on the residential ZIP code and the clinic scheduled by the city’s animal control department, according to the Fort Worth website.
The mobile unit will visit specific neighborhoods, and Fort Worth residents can drop their pets off at a previously scheduled time and pick them up the same day, free of charge.
“The Chip & Snip trailer lets us bring these services directly into neighborhoods where the need is the greatest,” said FWACC Assistant Director Chris McAllister. “It’s about partnering with residents right where they live to make responsible pet care easy and accessible.”

The release states that FWACC has performed 5,335 and neuter surgeries at its shelter facilities since the start of fiscal year 2025-26. The initiative began to encourage responsible pet ownership and help pet owners with necessary veterinary care.
Pets that are spayed and neutered are less likely to develop certain cancers and less likely to roam, fight, mark territory or show aggressive behavior, according to the release. Spaying and neutering pets also curbs the number of homeless animals and unplanned litters.
