The town of Trophy Club announced changes to traffic patterns near Byron Nelson High School, Medlin Middle School and Samuel Beck Elementary ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
Construction around the Northwest ISD schools for a roundabout on Bobcat Boulevard will change the current pedestrian routes near the schools. The first day of school for NISD students and staff is Aug. 12.
The details
The $3.8 million project includes widening the roadway. The sidewalk on Bobcat Boulevard, between Roseville Drive and Byron Nelson High School Driveway No. 4, is temporarily closed. While the project is not in Roanoke, it directly affects Roanoke residents and students who attend these schools, said Sandra Pettigrew, Roanoke's public engagement manager.
Trophy Club officials laid out the following pedestrian patterns ahead of the first day of school:
- Traveling south on Roseville Drive or Trophy Club Drive toward Bobcat Boulevard: Use the pedestrian crossing at Trophy Club Drive and Bobcat Boulevard, then continue along the south sidewalk adjacent to the temporary construction fencing.
- Traveling to Byron Nelson High School: Use the pedestrian crossing at BNHS Driveway No. 4 to cross to the north side of Bobcat Boulevard.
- Traveling to Medlin Middle School or Beck Elementary: Continue west along the south side of Bobcat Boulevard and use the designated pedestrian crossings at Parkview Drive.
Once roadway widening is complete, the sidewalk is expected to reopen while construction continues at the intersection of Bobcat Boulevard and Marshall Creek Drive, according to the town website.
What’s happening
Site preparation, utility locating, pavement removal, excavation, storm drain removal and utility work have all been completed, according to an Aug. 5 update on the town’s website. As construction progresses, the town will continue to evaluate traffic patterns and pedestrian routes to determine if adjustments to crossing guard locations or staffing are necessary.
The construction hours established by Trophy Club’s noise ordinance are 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays.
Construction for the first phase of work runs from July 20 to mid-September.
Work during the first phase includes:
- Excavation
- Creating a right-turn lane into Byron Nelson High School
- Creating a center-turn lane into Wonderland Montessori School
- Water line improvements and stormwater utility adjustments
- Roundabout excavation and subgrade preparation
- Concrete paving for the first half of the roundabout
- Sidewalk construction
- Grading, cleanup and preparation for the traffic switch to the second phase of construction
Going forward
The second phase will run from mid-September to early January 2027, according to the town website.
Traffic will be shifted to the completed portion of the roundabout and construction will move to the south side of the intersection, changing the traffic pattern for Marshall Creek Road on the Roanoke-Trophy Club border.
"At some point during construction, a section of Marshall Creek Road between Schooling Road and Bobcat Boulevard will be closed, and a detour will be routed through Roanoke," Pettigrew said. "The future closure may also require us to temporarily relocate some of our crossing guards to accommodate changes in student pedestrian routes and traffic patterns.”
