The Keller ISD board of trustees will attempt to finalize plans to close its three intermediate schools and reassign students before the district's winter break begins, Superintendent Cory Wilson said during an Oct. 29 board meeting.
The overview
Keller ISD staff is currently using preliminary boundary maps to verify how the address of each student affected by the consolidation fits into the proposed attendance zones.
“Once you get to the granular level with that many locations and that many kids, it takes a bit of time, but we do expect to have our transfer processes, staffing estimates, all of that out here in the very near future,” Wilson said.
The boundary realignments support the district’s approved plan to close all three of its intermediate campuses and transition to a system where elementary schools will serve pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, middle schools will include grades 6-8 and high schools will serve students in grades 9-12, according to a KISD news release.
Remember this?
During KISD’s May 14 board of trustees meeting, Bear Creek, Parkwood Hill and Trinity Meadows intermediate schools were selected to close after the 2026-27 school year by a 129-member committee of parents, community members, teachers and staff, per prior reporting.
A fourth school, Shady Grove Elementary, was originally proposed to close but remained open after the district launched an out-of-district open enrollment program, according to previous reporting.
Driven by an 18.3% drop in student enrollment since 2021, the district-wide consolidation is projected to impact thousands of students while saving at least $42 million in avoided facility repairs and ongoing operational costs.
What’s next
Preliminary discussions on boundary alignments will begin with the board of trustees later in November, Wilson said at the Oct. 29 meeting.
He added that the district plans to share preliminary maps, transfer processes and staffing estimates publicly by late November or early December, with the goal of finalizing all new attendance zones before students and staff leave for winter break.
The last day of school for the fall semester is Dec. 18, according to the district calendar.
