Community members are starting to see the results of the nearly $2 billion bond approved to fund Northwest ISD projects in May 2023.
Some new schools and renovations were completed in time for the start of the 2026-2027 school year and others are planned to be finished in 2027, including new home stadiums for NISD schools.
Ongoing projects
1. J. Fred Davis Jr. High School
Project: Davis High School will be NISD’s fourth. With a building capacity for 3,200 students, it will help alleviate overcrowding at other high schools in the district.
Update: A nearly $5.4 million GMP for the addition of instructional space for a JROTC program was approved at the Aug. 11 NISD board meeting.

2. Byron Nelson High School stadium
Project: Current high schools share access to NISD Stadium, but as more schools and students are added to the district, home fields like Bobcat Stadium will allow students cut down on travel time and play their games on Fridays and Saturdays. The stadium will have 7,500 seats.
Update: The project remains under construction but is still set to open before the end of the year.

3. Byron Nelson High School arena
Project: In line with its growth and other projects, Byron Nelson High School’s competition gym will be expanded as well to create new areas for additional home and visitor seating.
Update: The project is ongoing and is expected to open next year.

4. V.R. Eaton High School cafeteria
Project: The cafeteria at Eaton High School is also being expanded to keep up with the growing student population.
Update: The start of the cafeteria renovations was delayed and it will now finish later than expected.

5. V.R. Eaton High School arena
Project: The competition gym at Eaton will also be expanded to allow more spectators. It will expand toward the school's outdoor courtyard.
Update: Construction remains on schedule with the updated arena set to open next year.

6. V.R. Eaton High School stadium
Project: Eaton High School’s Eagle Stadium will also have a 7,500 seat capacity split between home and visitor seats. The project also includes additional parking and a facility for baseball and softball.
Update: The stadium is currently under construction with plans to open early next year.

7. Leigh Anne Romer Elementary School
Project: Located in the Madero community, the newly constructed Romer Elementary is the second elementary school to be funded by the 2023 bond and has a building capacity for 850 students.
Update: Romer Elementary opened as scheduled for the 2026-2027 school year.

8. Floyd Barksdale Middle School
Project: A new school located in the Pecan Square community, Barksdale Middle School will help alleviate overcrowding at Pike Middle School and has a building capacity for 1,200 students.
Update: Barksdale Middle School opened as scheduled for the 2026-2027 school year.

9. David Hicks Early Childhood Center
Project: Serving pre-kindergarten students, the David Hicks Early Childhood Center is the only one in NISD and the first of four approved by the 2023 bond.
Update: The David Hicks Early Childhood Center opened as scheduled for the 2026-2027 school year.

10. Byron Nelson High School cafeteria
Project: To keep up with enrollment growth, classrooms were expanded and existing common spaces, including the cafeteria, were upsized as well.
Update: The cafeteria was expanded and opened in August for the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
