Katy ISD officials approve plans for 4 new schools, architects for mass renovations

VLK Architects will build the identical elementary schools with a construction cost of about $28 million for each. They are scheduled to open for the 2016 school year.

Elementary school No. 39 will be built on East Ventana Parkway southwest of the new high school and junior high.

Elementary school No. 38—also known as Cinco Northwest—will be built near the intersection of FM 1463 and Crossover Road.

Renovations

Also approved at the meeting were a slew of contracts to design the renovations of many campuses and district buildings.

Stantec Architecture Inc. will design the renovations at Memorial Parkway Junior High, Memorial Parkway Elementary and the build-out of the Miller Career and Technology Center second-floor shell space. The architect firm has experience working with the school district; SHW Architects merged with Stantec Architecture Inc. and was responsible for the design of the recent Mayde Creek Junior High and West Memorial Junior High renovation projects, as well as the Center for Imagination and Innovation project under construction at the Miller Career and Technology Center campus

Texas-IBI Group, Inc. will design the renovations at Mayde Creek High School and the facility expansion at Beck, Cinco Ranch, Katy, McDonald, and McMeans junior high schools. Texas-IBI Group, Inc., formerly Bay-IBI, recently completed the renovation and additions at Taylor High School.

Huckabee Inc. will design the expansion of the South Transportation Center, and Pfluger Architects will design the renovations at Cimarron Elementary School.

More projects ahead

Trustees also approved a manager-at-risk delivery method for other projects associated with the bond, calling for bids from firms on the cost of a project from its initial planning to its final construction. Those projects sited by trustees include a second stadium for the district, expansion of the agricultural science center, renovations at Golbow and Pattison elementary schools, softball renovations for Katy and Taylor high schools, and renovations at the Cinco Ranch High School field house along with science upgrades for the school.
