The Fulshear Police Department has launched a new app for residents to stay connected with the police department, officials announced in a Feb. 9 Facebook post.
Zooming in
The app—developed for $4,850 over six months in partnership with StackBench, a company that develops apps for law enforcement and government agencies—allows both Apple and Android users to receive important real-time notifications from the department, Capt. Michael McCoy said in an email.
McCoy said the app also allows users to:
- View community alerts
- Access safety resources
- Submit tips
- Find department contact information
- Stay informed about upcoming events and programs
Why it matters
The app comes as the city continues to grow—more than 250%, according to five-year estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey—brewing a need for improved communication and accessibility, McCoy said.
“The goal is to make communication faster, more transparent and more accessible for our community,” McCoy said. “Our mission has always been to serve with purpose and integrity. This app is another way for us to stay connected with our community, share important information quickly and continue building trust through open communication.”
Another note
While the app is designed with Fulshear residents in mind, McCoy said anyone interested in staying informed about public safety in the community is encouraged to use it. Emergencies should still be reported by calling 911.
