Katy residents will see an increase to solid waste fees starting in September.
What you need to know
At an Aug. 10 meeting, Katy City Council approved a contract amendment with Texas Pride Disposal to raise solid waste collection and disposal rates by 4.8% to align with the national consumer price index.
The consumer price index measures the average change in prices, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
By the numbers
The fee increase will raise solid waste and recycling services from $16.85 to $17.66 per month for residential units, according to agenda documents.
Charges for small commercial unit services and additional garbage or recycle carts are staying the same.
Put in perspective
Prior to partnering with Texas Pride for solid waste removal, Katy had an agreement with Republic Services, as previously reported by Community Impact.
When their contract expired in 2020, the monthly residential solid waste and recycling services fee was $17.87, a $0.21 difference to the newly increased fee.
On July 21, Fulshear City Council also approved a solid waste collection and disposal rate increase, going from $16.90 to $17.72 per month.
