A new full-size synthetic turf football and soccer field along with a new lighting system is now available at Katy City Park, Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Browne confirmed.
What to expect
The field has lines for football and soccer, along with new goals, goalposts and bleachers, Browne said.
Meanwhile, the lighting system offers programmable LED lights and hydraulic poles that can be lowered for maintenance or in the event of severe weather.
The lights also feature the first “Intelligent Play” software installed in the state that has live data, field-usage reports and hotspots for maintenance, Browne said.
Also of note
Browne said city officials were also able to manage drainage issues, add new sidewalk connections and introduce pickleball lines to two tennis courts.
The cost
Community Impact reported the total cost of the projects at $2.29 million in December. However, Browne said city officials are still waiting on payment applications from their contractors to review, and a complete and final cost is not available at press time.
One last thing
The new facilities are open to the public, and reservations for the field will begin July 1, pending council approval of new fees.
